Zalo spaces

Role: Brand Strategy, naming & creative copywriting

  • Zalo Spaces is a curated hospitality brand offering sustainable, design-led stays in southern Crete. Rooted in the concept of “quiet luxury,” Zalo reimagines traditional Cretan architecture through modern minimalism, inviting guests into a slower, more grounded rhythm of life. With properties located in Matala and the Kommos coast, each space blends natural materials, clean design, and a deep respect for place.

    • Creating a naming system that could grow with the brand as new properties emerged

    • Expressing a modern, elegant hospitality concept while honoring Cretan heritage

    • Establishing a tone that felt refined yet grounded, premium but not pretentious

    • Created the name Zalo – meaning “step” in the local dialect – to reflect both physical movement and an inner shift toward slow, intentional living

    • Built a naming system inspired by Greek language and landscape, with property names like Adama, Noema, and Alargo, each carrying layered meanings tied to the land and experience

    • Developed a strategic brand narrative focused on “quiet luxury,” sustainability, and belonging

    • Collaborated closely with Roleplay on language that complemented the sober, poetic visual identity

  • The Zalo brand launched with Adama, an adult-only micro-neighborhood in Matala, and has since expanded to include future properties Noema and Alargo. The identity captures a sense of place and purpose—inviting guests to slow down, ground themselves, and experience Cretan life through a contemporary lens.
